About Agora
The vision behind
the square.
Agora is not a feature list. It is a set of choices about what a public space owes the people who enter it — and one person’s attempt to build exactly that.
01 — Why Agora exists
The mainstream square is designed to make you pay.
Not with money — with attention. And when speech is the raw material, the platforms that profit from it have a quiet interest in which opinions travel and which ones stall.
On the big platforms, you are the product. Ads are the engine, engagement is the fuel, and algorithms decide what gets seen — including, quietly, what gets un-seen. The result is a public square where challenging the status quo, criticizing governments, or raising uncomfortable issues becomes a career risk for your own reach. Free speech, when it depends on an invisible ranking function, is free speech on a leash.
Agora inverts the model. You are the citizen. The feed is chronological — the newest thing is simply the newest thing. There are no ads to serve, so there is no reason to rank, suppress, or shape your voice. What remains is a hard, public line where freedom ends: vulgarity, harassment, hate, and content that endangers people are moderated strictly, consistently, and under rules anyone can read.
We refuse to
- Sell your attention back to you
- Rank speech by engagement score
- Quietly demote uncomfortable opinions
- Moderate in secret, against secret rules
We will
- Keep the timeline strictly chronological
- Let dissenting opinions travel as far as the rest
- Enforce strict boundaries against vulgarity & abuse
- Publish our moderation rules in plain language
02 — The person behind it
Built by one. For everyone.
Agora is a solo project — no venture backing, no growth team, no incentive to maximize the time you spend feeling anxious.
Jay B.
Solo developer · architect
Jay has spent the last decade building native Android applications — shipping production apps in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, from local-tools utilities to large-scale consumer products. That depth on a single platform is exactly why Agora launches on Android: every screen is native, fast, and offline-friendly, with none of the weight a web wrapper carries.
But the app is the smaller half of the project. The architecture was designed from day one to be censorship-resistant by construction: a local-first storage model so the timeline is never hostage to a single server, encrypted synchronization, an open chronological API, and no central control point where one opinion can be quietly deleted without the rest of the square noticing.
“I’ve built a lot of things that platforms later reshaped to serve advertisers. Agora is the one I get to build the way it should have been built all along.”
One developer. No board, no advertisers, no growth KPIs. Just a builder who believes a public square belongs to the people in it.
03 — Send a signal
Feedback, ideas, or just hello.
This is an early-build platform, and the people in it shape what it becomes. Everything sent here is read by the person who writes the code.
Signal received.
Thank you — that’s exactly the kind of input that shapes the square. This demo form isn’t connected to a server yet; for anything urgent, email us directly below.
